Staff from Shutters on the Beach fill sandbags in response to the tsunami advisory issued for California on Saturday, February 27, 2010. The 8.8  earthquake that struck near the coast of central Chile has prompted the advisory.

Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce Board Member Jeffrey L. Jarow makes a cell call from behind bars to raise money in order to 'post bail'  (or ‘raise money’ for the organization) during the  Muscular Dystrophy Association's (MDA) Annual Lock-Up fundraising campaign at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company on Wednesday, Feb 24, 2010.

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. With national headquarters in Tucson, MDA has more than 200 offices across the country, sponsors 220 hospital-affiliated clinics and supports nearly 400 research projects around the world. MDA is the largest nongovernmental sponsor of muscle and nerve disease research.

VETERANS FOR PEACE

Arlington West is a temporary memorial installed by Veterans for Peace every Sunday and intended to be a place to mourn, reflect, contemplate, grieve, and meditate, to honor and acknowledge those who have lost their lives, and to reflect upon the costs of war. Arlington West was first installed in Santa Monica, California on Sunday, February 15, 2004.
