Gladiators Invade Santa Monica
Gladiators at the Third Street Promenade promote HISTORY Channel's new series entitled, "Colosseum," on Saturday, July 16, 2022.The new series premieres July 17 at 9/8c on The HISTORY Channel. The eight-part series vividly brings to life the rise and fall of the Roman Empire through the lens of one of the most exhilarating and brutal arenas in the history of humanity–the Colosseum. From the savage truth of a gladiator’s life as a slave-warrior to the fascinating ways Rome’s Emperors used the vast amphitheater to demonstrate total power, “Colosseum” offers viewers a unique and personal look inside history’s most iconic empire. Rising Up for Abortion rights in Santa Monica
Demonstrators in support of Abortion Rights and to protest the reversal of Roe V. Wade rally in front of the Planned Parenthood office at the Third Street Promenade on Saturday, July 16, 2022. The protest was organized by Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights @rise4abortionrightsla. Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights is a U.S.-based abortion rights coalition founded in 2022 aimed at preventing the U.S. Supreme Court from overturning Roe V. Wade and "decimating" abortion rights in the United States.
Police Partner with Youth
Members of Pico Lab sell silk screen t-shirts at the Santa Monica Pier on Friday, July 15, 2022. The shirts were custom designed and printed at Virginia Avenue Park by the youth members. The Santa Monica Police Department’s LEAD (Leadership, Engagement, Achievement, Discovery) Program prides itself on being adaptable and responsive to youth’s needs and interests while building leadership and practical skills. The Pico Lab was created within the LEAD, in partnership with The Police Officers Association, for young people to learn entrepreneurship and teaches young people how to start their own business and plug into existing economic avenues in our community. Young people need encouragement, support, services, and tangible resources, the Pico Lab creates that opportunity.
Police K9 Searches for Explosives at Pier
Santa Monica Police Officer Hassan, and her four-legged partner K9 Jack, a 4-year-old Labrador, search the Santa Monica Pier for explosives for Major League Baseball’s Capital One All-Star Oceanfront event on Friday, July 15, 2022. K9 Jack can detect body-worn explosives and concealed firearms in a mass pedestrian area from around 50 yards away.
