Creator Spring de Haviland honorably served thirty years in the military, and is still active with units' morale and welfare. Spring was active as a volunteer special events director for the International Random Acts of Kindness movement. Spring has been honored many times with proclamations for her long-time humanitarian and community service. And she has received a "Heroes Award" from the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce.
Fire on the Santa Monica Pier
Santa Monica Firefighters respond to a fire at the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday, March 20, 2022. The Santa Monica Pier Safety Task Force were the first to respond to the fire. Santa Monica Police Officer Madrid was able to put out the fire with an extinguisher before Santa Monica Firefighters arrived. The multi-department task force consists of Santa Monica Police Officers, Santa Monica Code Enforcement Officers, Santa Monica Fire Department personnel, Santa Monica Harbor Patrol Officers, Public Works and a private security guards. The newly formed task force has been instrumental in helping to educate and enforce the City’s safety laws and ensuring safe sidewalk vending practices across the City.
