Santa Monica Tree Lighting Ceremony

Santa Claus lights the 24-foot-tall Christmas tree at the Third Street Promenade in Downtown Santa Monica on Friday, November 19, 2021. The Tree Lighting Ceremony featured performances by Samohi Madrigals, Lincoln Middle School Madrigals, Santa Monica Youth Orchestra Mariachi Perla del Oeste, and Santa Monica Youth Orchestra Chamber Ensemble. Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. (DTSM) brings the holidays to the Third Street Promenade with the return of Winterlit, transforming the downtown district into an immersive, festive experience. Tens of thousands of colorful lights, decor and garlands deck the Third Street Promenade, 2nd and 4th Streets, illuminating convenient shopping and cozy outdoor dining experiences.

WALKING THE LABYRINTH

Beachgoers walk the labyrinths at the Annenberg Community Beach House on Saturday, November 13, 2021. The Annenberg Community Beach House has commissioned artist Lars Howlett to create two temporary site-specific walkable labyrinths in the sand and one on hardscape for Out-of-the-Blue, a program of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs. Labyrinths cultivate peace and bring the community together by providing a container for a reflective experience in a focused and sacred space. Walk the labyrinths at the Beach House on November 13 and 14 to experience the potential of labyrinths to create and hold space for stress reduction, healing, reflection, and community building through art.

Veteran's Day Celebration in Santa Monica

The City of Santa Monica, with the Los Angeles Army Recruitment Battalion and the California Army National Guard celebrate Veterans Day at the Santa Monica Pier parking lot on Thursday, November 11, 2021. The program included the posting of the colors, National anthem, remarks from Mayor Sue Himmelrich, Councilmember Gleam Davis, General Curtis Taylor, U.S. Army, and a swearing in ceremony of future soldiers. “It is our great fortune to have so many brave men and women in service to our country. They deserve our recognition all year with special honors paid on Veterans Day,” said Mayor Sue Himmelrich. “We proudly join the U.S. Army in this tribute and ask the community to join us virtually to recognize and honor the veterans in our lives and across Santa Monica.” “The past year and a half have been extremely challenging for our military veterans with the continued pandemic and the fallout from Afghanistan. On this Veterans Day, we challenge you to help us make them feel extra special by showing gratitude and honor for their service,” said Sonki Hong, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army. November 11th is the day the US signed the armistice that ended our first World War. Over 100,000 Americans made the ultimate sacrifice and died in service of their country. Since then, the US has fought in six major wars. Each time, calling on the men and women in our military to brave the battleground and fight for our country. For 21 years, the five pillars of the Veterans Memorial in Palisades Park honor each branch of our military, the Army, the Navy, the Marines, the Airforce, and the Coast Guards. The Santa Monica Veterans Memorial symbolizes peace and healing. During the month of November, Santa Monicans are encouraged to visit the memorial. The November 11 celebration will be held on the deck of the historic Santa Monica Pier.

The iconic shopping cart tree at Edgemar will be over 34 feet tall, covered in clear and blue lights with silver ornaments. WALK OUT FOR FREEDOM IN SANTA MONICA

Activists demonstrate during Children’s Health Defense Worldwide Walkout Against Covid Mandates and Medical Freedom Rally at Palisades Park on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Children’s Health Defense (CHD) joined organizations and individuals by kicking off worldwide “walk outs” of work by calling in sick or taking a personal day to gather in protest of the unprecedented loss of freedom that has occurred the world over since the COVID pandemic began. Parents will also pulled their children out of school for the day to protest the many restraints that have applied directly to children. “No government in history has ever surrendered power in the absence of a demand,” said Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., CHD Board Chair and Lead Counsel. “We need to tell these governments and their friends in the technocracy, the Silicon Valley billionaire boys club, the mainstream media, and the pharmaceutical industry that we will no longer tolerate their trampling of citizens’ rights.” Many are now emboldened by reports of a recent "walk out" of Southwest employees resulting in over 2,000 flights cancelled, followed by a peaceful protest of the company’s planned COVID vaccine mandate by hundreds of current and former employees at Love Fields in Dallas. Just one day after the protest, management dropped plans to put unvaccinated employees on unpaid leave. Nurses, doctors, teachers, police officers, firefighters, sanitation workers and other employees all over the country facing mandates are being forced to choose between their livelihood and protecting their health. In states where the mandate deadlines have passed, many refused to comply and walked away from their careers. “Coercive mandates of shoddily tested medical products and segregationist passports violate international human rights law,” said CHD President and General Counsel Mary Holland. “We need brave citizens to peacefully refuse to comply with unlawful and unethical edicts that for the past year and a half have been allowed to trump individual rights and freedoms. Those days are over. There will be no business as usual until segregationist and coercive medical policies advanced by government authorities end once and for all.” Just days after New York City announced mandates for firefighters, police officers, sanitation workers and other city employees, a massive protest occurred with estimates of over 50,000 people attending. Sanitation workers are engaging in civil disobedience, by refusing to work, as trash is seen piling up in the streets of Manhattan and the boroughs. Meanwhile, the city of Chicago, facing similar mandates, had police officers protesting and ultimately forced into unpaid leave over similar mandates. All over the country, people are fighting back on the streets and in the courtrooms against these mandates. Announcement of the protest comes following Tuesday’s decision by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee’s (VRBPAC) decision to authorize Pfizer’s Emergency Use Authorization COVID vaccine for children ages five to eleven. The vote to approve authorization of this vaccine, despite overwhelming evidence that COVID does not pose a threat to young people, is causing even more unrest among those concerned with the safety of COVID vaccines in all age groups. From mid-December, 2020 through October 15, 2021, the U.S. government database, the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) received 818,044 reports of injury following COVID vaccination including 17,128 deaths. “This vote by VRBPAC to put young children at risk of serious injury and even death is one more reason that people need to stand up to tyranny, letting businesses and governments know that we will no longer comply with reckless decisions that threaten the health of our children,” said CHD Executive Director Laura Bono.
