WE'll BE LOyal Scouts

Santa Monica Mayor Ken Genser awards a Commendation to Santa Monica Pack 67 Webelo 1 Den Leader Meighan Maguire at City Hall on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. Webelos 1 Scouts (left to right) Nick Santini, Nick Brandenberg, and Aiden Metz lend their support. The Aims of Cub Scouting is to build character, learn the responsibilities of citizenship, and develop personal fitness. Apart from the fun and excitement of Cub Scout activities, the Cub Scout Promise, the Law of the Pack, and the Cub Scout sign, handshake, motto, and salute all teach good citizenship and contribute to a boy's sense of belonging. Webelos was  an acronym meaning Wolf, Bear, Lion, Scout. It has since come to mean "WE'll BE LOyal Scouts".

Outstanding Woman Leader

The Outstanding Women Leaders Awards are presented annually to women who have demonstrated exceptional personal and/or professional dedication to improving the lives of women and girls in Santa Monica.  Officer Natalie Dewberry, a pioneering veteran of the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD), is an exemplary role model for female officers, and girls and boys at the Police Activities League.  For 20 years, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment in her numerous roles with the SMPD, always helping women and children who are victims of poverty and violence.  Known affectionately as “the Bank of Dewberry” at the Police Activities League, Officer Dewberry has bought clothes, shoes and school supplies for children in need.  The Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women works to enhance the status of women in the community. The Commission promotes these goals through investigation of, advocacy for and policy development regarding issues relevant to women and girls, and by creating leadership and career advancement opportunities for women and girls in the community.


City of Hope


Crews assemble a Beach Front Tent on Monday, Oct 13, 2008, in preparation for City of Hope 's 2008 Spirit of Life Award on Wednesday. The Spirit of Life Award is City of Hope’s most prestigious philanthropic honor and recognizes individuals who have committed their time and resources to helping those in need. Spirit of Life Award honorees are selected for their notable contributions to their community and profession.  Doug Morris, chairman and chief executive officer of Universal Music Group (UMG), the world's leading music company, has been named the 2008 recipient of the Spirit of Life Award by City of Hope’s Music and Entertainment Industry Group. As Chairman and CEO of UMG, Mr. Morris is responsible for guiding the overall global activities of the world’s largest music company

Susy Holyhead, (left) Business Greening Program Director from Sustainable Works,  awards  Lynne Thomas, Marketing Manager of The Lobster, with the 'Santa Monica Green Business Certification' on Thursday, March 6, 2008, during a Solar Celebration Press Conference.  The Lobster has recently added 54 solar panels curved gracefully over its south-facing roof. The Lobster worked with Solar Santa Monica, the City's sponsored program aimed at encouraging both solar photovoltaics and solar thermal (hot water), to get the new system up and running.

The Independent Spirit Awards, founded in 1984, are held the day before the Academy Awards, on Saturday, February 23 inside a tent on the beach. Over the years, the awards have become a showcase for the year’s best independent films, with previous winners including The Player, Pulp Fiction, Sideways and Lost in Translation.

2006 Distinguished Service Award

1) Kristin Chapin makes a speech after receiving the Santa Monica Junior Chamber of Commerce's 2006 Distinguished Service Award on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at the Santa Monica Family YMCA. Chapin's husband Steven also received the prestigious award in 2000 and makes them the first ever husband wife recipients of the award. 2) Mayor Richard Bloom gives Kristin a proclamation from the City of Santa Monica for receiving the Santa Monica Junior Chamber of Commerce's award.
