Dragnet

A woman with her child walk past the newly installed vehicle safety nets at the Downtown Santa Monica Farmers-Market on Wednesday, May 18, 2011. These enhancements are features of an innovative traffic control plan designed by local engineering firm Crain and Associates specifically to prevent a repeat of the horrific 2003 accident which an elderly driver killed 10 people and seriously injured several others because he allegedly mistook his gas pedal for the brake. The nets are often used on the East Coast for highway construction/road safety projects.
