Monica Howe, 30, a bike valet and the  outreach manager for the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, parks a shoppers bicycle during  Santa Monica Farmers market at Main Street on Sunday July, 16, 2006. The Bicycle Valet program is a new pilot project that is sponsored by the City of Santa Monica. The project is designed to reduce the over abundance of bikes locked up to fences, trees, meters and posts throughout the neighborhood  creating crowded sidewalks. On any typical Sunday, there can be more than 130 bicycles locked up throughout the streets surrounding the farmers market, according to  Luis Morris, Transportation Management Specialist for the city of Santa Monica. Nine metered parking spots were being reserved for Bicycle. The entire block on Main Street between Ocean Park and Hill was reserved for the Bicycles. There were around 30 bikes parked at the valet zone at any given time throughout the farmers market hours of 9am to 1 pm on Sunday. All the tips from the valet zone went to support the   Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition. A group of Santa Monica Police Explores  were on hand- working security, keeping an eye on the bikes.
