The 'Blue Moon' can be seen rising on New Year's Eve in Santa Monica on Thursday, December 31. 2009. A blue moon is the second full moon in a month and occurs every 3.5 years. The moon was full on Dec. 2 and again tonight Dec 31.

LED lights use light-emitting diodes as a source of illumination rather than electrical filaments or gas and have high light output with lower power consumption and have much longer lifetimes, such that they do not require replacement.
