Whether you're a singer, poet, mc, dancer, actor or musician, Downbeat 720 provides a safe, structured environment to try out new material, gain confidence and develop their skills as artists by performing in front of an audience of their peers. Downbeat 720 is staged at Miles Play house and is sponsored by the City of Santa Monica.

A group of teenagers jump from of the public art sculpture "Walk on L.A." (by artist Carl Cheng) at Santa Monica Beach on Tuesday April 8, 2008. The sculpture was constructed by John Doe Co. from cast concrete and steel and was commissioned by the City of Santa Monica.

(2) Robinson shares personal stories at the "Youth Chat," a panel discussion for teens. (3)  Robinson autographs a teenagers skateboard during the festival. (4) A group of teenagers race to win an autographed skateboard by Robinson. (5) La Dee Dred performs some reggae and soul while  people dance during the festival on Sunday.

1) Terry Manpeal, 11, ascends up at tree during Rosie's Girls Camp on Monday, Aug 8, 2007 at Stewart Street Park. Rosie's Girls Santa Monica is based on a national program designed to build self-esteem, leadership and physical confidence in middle school girls.  During the three week intensive summer camp, girls go "behind the scenes" and experience what it takes to maintain the city by learning and applying skills in carpentry, welding firefighting, tree trimming and other technical trades. 2) Waverly Nebedum, 12, works  30 feet above ground in a cheri-picker  during Rosie's Girls Camp on Monday. 3) Gianna Hayes, 11, saws through a tree log  during Rosie's Girls Camp.  Johnny Aguila, city arabist, supervises. 4) Shop Stewards Dana Levin, 17, works on the jig saw while Maria Bravo, 16, holds the board steady. 5) Saha Sazer, 12, paints her chair during during Rosie's Girls Camp.
