Dunnage Ball

Guest of GLOW art Festival  climb into  Peter Tolkin Projects' Dunnage Ball at Santa Monica Beach on Saturday, July 19, 2008. Composed of 30 dunnage bags (used to isolate and stabilize cargo during transportation), a 22’ diameter molecular-like structure was internally illuminated and  placed on the beach in the northern end of the Glow zone. The public can sit within it and gaze out to the ocean and beyond.

Hangin' around

Two arms and legs hang at  Santa Monica Museum of Art   as part of the 'The Puppet Show' exhibition on Tuesday, June 24, 2008. The art installation is by artist Kicki Smith and is titled, 'Nuit' (1992) Plaster, wood, Cheesecloth and string. The Puppet Show installation includes works by participating artists as well as a collection of historic puppets, who are housed in Puppet Storage—the exhibition's simultaneous entry and “backstage” or unconsciousness. The Puppet Show is organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania. It is co-curated by Ingrid Schaffner, ICA Senior curator, and Carin Kuoni, Director. The exhibition runs through August 9th at Bergamot Station.

Walk on L.A.

A group of teenagers jump from of the public art sculpture "Walk on L.A." (by artist Carl Cheng) at Santa Monica Beach on Tuesday April 8, 2008. The sculpture was constructed by John Doe Co. from cast concrete and steel and was commissioned by the City of Santa Monica.
