PAL youth shoppers browse for merchandise during the 'PAL Good Deed Dollar' shopping spree on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at the Santa Monica Police Activities League. The PAL kids earned  good deed dollars throughout the summer for good behavior and for doing chores. The end-of-summer sale was a one-day event in which youth could spend their hard-earned cash on everything from school supplies and remote control cars, to jewelry, sweatshirts — even a portable DVD player and an iPod Nano.
