Saint John's Santa Monica 5000
(1) Phillip Reid, 22, (number 44 in the center) who hails from San Luis Obispo, leads the pack during the Third annual Saint John's Santa Monica 5000 on Sunday, October 19, 2008. Reid came in first place in the 5K event with a time of 13:99 and won $1,500 for his first place finish, along with a $300 time bonus for breaking 14:20. Money raised from the event supports programs at the hospital.(2) Runners warm up with some stretches before the race. (3) Master Yoga Instructor Rainbeau Mars, awards Reid with the first place plaque. (1,2) Kevin Roscoe, 28, (RED) (145lbs) exchange blows with Gary Philpot, 25, (BLUE) (147lbs) during Muscle Beach Amateur Boxing on Sunday, May 25, 2008. Roscoe won the bout by decision. (3,4) Anthony Rodriguez, 18, (RED) (136lbs) and Dominguez Vasquez, 19, (BLUE) box for three rounds on Sunday in Venice. Vasquez won the bout by a decision. Muscle Beach Amateur Boxing was presented by Pro Fight. There were twealve 3-round bouts of amateur boxing starting with the young boxers from the Boys & Girls Club, moving to the boxers from Venice High School and then the Marines vs Army, UCLA vs. USC, and the great finale was the Los Angeles Fire Department vs LA County Sheriffs.
