Darin Selby, 47, runs along the Venice bike path pulling his home-made human-powered "Dream Catcher Mobile" on Sunday, December 23, 2007.   With hardly any effort, Selby can pull up to 1000 ponds accomplished via the human-powered rolling lever! In operating the Dream Catcher Mobile, Selby first pulls down a long, padded lever - and in the process uses his own body weight as an advantage.

Bill Figueroa, 55, a transportation mechanic for Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, fills up a bus with 'natural gas.' The bus can hold about 210 gallons and can travel up to 300 miles on a tank full. Natural gas is  cooled down to a minus 260 degrees to become liquid. Special precautions must be made to avoid skin contact that can result in severe burns.

All though its standing room only on this crowded Santa Monica Big Blue bus, this seat remained empty in honor of Rosa Parks and the anniversary of the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott that sparked the civil rights movement.  A black ribbon was draped across the seat, along with a commemorative marker reserving this seat in Parks memory on Thursday December 1, 2005.
