Hanuman

Artist John Cornejo, 19, (top) and Franky Vasquez, 19, (center) paint a mural titled, 'Hanuman' on Sunset Avenue in Venice on Friday, September 13, 2008. The Mural of Hanuman - The Monkey God, was inspired by Santa Monica Ploce Officer and Yoga instructor Erik Milosovich. This Monkey-like God is a central character in one of the most revered books of the ancient Vedic literature of India. In the story of the Ramayana, Hanuman becomes a supernatural hero and uses his powers to battle evil armies of the demonic Ravana. In a classic drama of good versus evil, Hanuman acts not only as a hero but is always empowered by unselfish service and love towards all beings. And It is in the spirit of service that officer Milosovich has been volunteering to work with local youth to promote service to the community. Through film classes, martial arts training, and Yoga he has lured local youth to turn away from at-risk behavior and channel their talents into art. The air brush and spray paint mural can be viewed at Sunset Av. and Rose Av. , east of Lincoln Blvd. in Venice 90291.

2008 Muscle Beach Labor Day Bodybuilding Championship







1) Dean Ash, 31, (left) who hails from England, hits a most muscular pose during the 2008 Muscle Beach Labor Day Bodybuilding Championship at Venice Beach on September 1, 2008. Butts won first place in the woman's novice division. This was her first time to compete. 6) James Butts, (center) former Santa Monica Police Chief and the current Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA)  Deputy Executive Director of Airport Law Enforcement & Protection Services, awards first place in the woman's novice division to his daughter Ashley (left).

Lilian Garcia, WWE Monday Night Raw ring announcer, signs autographs for her fans at Venice during WWE SummerFest 2008 on Saturday, August 9, 2008.As the ring announcer on Raw, Lilian Garcia has performed the National Anthem at hundreds of WWE, NBA, New York Jets games and other sporting events. Garcia has been singing since she was a small child in Madrid, Spain. In her early teens – by then Garcia's family had relocated to Columbia, S.C. – she was singing with a band at clubs around the area; her mom chaperoned so she could get in. Garcia went on to graduate cum laude from the University of South Carolina. Lilian has made WWE history by becoming the first female to announce WrestleMania, at WrestleMania 22. In November 2001, she sang on WWE's float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.Garcia's first single, "Shout," released in 2002, became a hit. Garcia's Spanish language debut album ¡Quiero Vivir! was released in October 2007, which includes 12 tracks and two duets – one featuring Latin recording artist Jon Secada.
